“Both the demographics and lack of resources in the health and well-being industry are increasingly forcing us to find alternative solutions for individualized health and social care. In an effort to address this issue, smart technologies present enormous potential in solving this challenge. This book strives to enhance communication and collaboration between technology and health and social care sectors.
The reader will receive an extensive overview of the possibilities of various technologies in care sectors (including ICT, electronics, automation, and sensor technology) written by experts from various countries. It will prove extremely useful for engineers developing well-being related systems, software, or other devices that can be used by professionals working with people with specialist needs, well-being and health service providers, educators teaching related courses, and upper level undergraduate students and graduate student studying related topics. The technology focus of the book is widespread and addresses elderly care and hospitals, in addition to solutions for various user groups, devices, and technologies. Beyond serving as a resource for nurses and people working in care sector, the book is also meant to give guidelines for engineers developing person-centered systems by exploring the integration of these technologies into service systems.” CRC Press

Governments are pumping large sums of money into smart grid research, development and deployments. With the potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, increase reliability of electricity supply, and increase the efficiency of our energy infrastructure, it is clear that the advancement of these smart grids is an important and inevitable conclusion.
This text provides insight into the power electronics sensing, monitoring and control technologies, as well as deeply exploring the communication aspects of smart grids” John Wiley and Sons, Inc..
We support the making of MIMO Power Line Communications: Narrow and Broadband Standards, EMC, and Advanced Processing

“This book – the first of its kind – is subdivided into five thematic parts. Part I looks at narrow and broadband channel characterization based on measurements from around the globe. Taking into account current regulations and electromagnetic compatibility, Part II describes EMC regulation, MIMO signal processing strategies and related capacity and throughput estimates. Current Narrow- and Broadband PLC standards and specifications are described in the various chapters of Part III.
Advanced PLC processing options are treated in Part IV, drawing from a wide variety of research areas such as beamforming/precoding, time reversal, multi-user processing and relaying. Finally, Part V contains Case Studies and Field Trials where the advanced technologies of tomorrow are put into practice today.
All chapters are written in a self-contained manner but are at the same time extensively cross-referenced, allowing each reader to encounter a personal enjoyable and inspiring reading path.” CRC Press
Members of our team contributed to the making of Power-Line Communications: Smart Grid, Transmission, and Propagation

“Power-line communication networks are gaining popularity in various service provisions such as in houses/offices, access networks, in ships, aircrafts, trains, vehicles, in industry systems control, and advanced metering infrastructure. This popularity is also striding towards smart grid implementations. However, the network structure affects the channel response which exhibits frequency selectivity and time variant behaviour.
These effects are due to different terminal loads connected to such systems, number of branches, and different branched line lengths. In addition, different types of cables and signal injection methods used (i.e., with respect to adjacent lines/grounds and the grounding systems implemented in different countries) for such systems render the propagation difficult. Furthermore, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) issues and more especially Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) occurring at different frequencies of operations still need more investigation. Power-line communications have demonstrated the acceptance to support various applications such as HD Television (HDTV), Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), interactive gaming, whole-home audio, security monitoring, and Smart Grid management. These services have to be supported by the new home networks/ access and be deployed and standardized worldwide." Editorial: Power-Line Communications: Smart Grid, Transmission, and Propagation
Our team has been working on "Smart Grid Infrastructure & Networking"

“Smart Grid Infrastructure & Networking describes network technologies for smart grids, including details on standardization, applications, protocols, wireless, wireline, and fiber optic communications. Architecture, management, and other topics are also discussed.
Smart grids have the potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through the integration of renewable energy resources, energy storage, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. They can increase the reliability of the electricity supply and render the utilization of power generation stations and electricity transport infrastructure more efficient by enabling dynamic pricing and demand/response strategies." McGraw-Hill Ryerson Ltd.
Our team has been working on "Embedded Systems: Hardware, Design and Implementation"

“The book begins with an introduction of embedded computing systems, honing in on system on a chip (SoCs), multi-processor System-on-Chip (MPSoCs) and Network operation centers (NoCs). It covers on-chip integration of software and custom hardware accelerators, as well as fabric flexibility, custom architectures, and the multiple I/O standards that facilitate PCB integration. The second portion of the book focuses on the technologies associated with embedded computing systems.
It also covers the basics of field-programmable gate array (FPGA), digital signal processing (DSP) and application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) technology, architectural support for on-chip integration of custom accelerators with processors and O/S support for these systems. The third area focuses on architecture, testability and computer-aided design (CAD) support for embedded systems, soft processors, heterogeneous resources, on-chip storage. The final section covers software support, in particular O/S (linux, research and technology organization (RTO))." John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Members of our team contributed a chapter in Convergence of Mobile and Stationary Next-Generation Networks

“Mobile and stationary next-generation networks that access the photonic core are destined to become as ubiquitous as traditional telephone networks. These networks must efficiently provide adequate network quality to multimedia applications with high bandwidth and strict quality-of-service requirements, as well as seamlessly integrate mobile and fixed architectures. Today’s engineering students must be properly prepared to meet the challenges of next-generation network development and deployment.
Featuring contributions from top industrial experts and academic professors, this authoritative work provides a comprehensive introduction to next-generation networks. It explains wireless networks such as wireless local area networks (WLAN), wireless personal area networks (WPAN), wireless access, 3G/4G cellular, and RF transmission, as well as optical networks like long-haul and metropolitan networks, optical fiber, photonic devices, and VLSI chips. Rather than focusing on heavy math or physical details, this resource explores how the technology is being used. It describes access and transport network layer technologies while also discussing the network and services aspects." John Wiley and Sons, Inc.
